Try these 5 must-eat restaurants in Charleston – and enjoy them with Pepsi

Plate of seafood and pasta

With long stretches of beach and a bustling downtown full of history – and brilliant chefs – Charleston is a fun place to visit with the family no matter what time of year you go. Be sure to take a stroll along The Battery, get a look at Rainbow Row and see the city from the top of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge.

All that sightseeing takes energy, so you’ll no doubt be looking for the best places to eat in Charleston, SC. We’ve got the list to get you started. And in our opinion, no matter what you order, from the best burger in Charleston to some delicious pizza on James Island, there’s a Pepsi pairing just waiting for you to try.

Here are our 5 must-eat restaurants in Charleston, SC

Hyman’s Seafood

Located in downtown Charleston, Hyman’s has been a family establishment since 1890. Once a wholesale dry goods business, Hyman’s is now known for their huge selection of seafood-based dishes. Think crab cakes, Lowcountry gumbo, fried shrimp and more.

Pairing suggestion: Calamari po-boy, coleslaw and hushpuppies with a Pepsi.

Paisano’s Pizza Grill

Hungry for pizza on James Island or in West Ashley? Paisano’s is a casual hangout owned by two best friends. Not only do they serve a wide variety of pizzas, sandwiches and gyros, they offer arcade-style games and board games for family (and friend) fun.

Pairing suggestion: The Huevos Paisanos (with an egg base, mozzarella, bacon, jalapenos, cheddar and ranch) with a Pepsi, for a twist on Saturday brunch in Charleston.

The King Claw

There’s one word to describe West Ashley’s King Claw: juicy. The concept is modeled off of Viet-Cajun-style, boil-in-a-bag seafood that’s meant to preserve “juicy” ocean flavors. King Claw enhances the flavor with their unique mix of spices. The menu boasts ample seafood options served with corn and potato and a King Claw seasoning, plus fried fish baskets and appetizers like fried cheese sticks.

Pairing suggestion: Shrimp, corn and potato mixed with King Claw Special seasoning, with a Pepsi.

JohnKing Grill & Bar

Found on historic King Street, this laid-back joint is known for its dueling piano shows and live music upstairs. Come hungry for smashed-style burgers (the Charleston might be one of the best burgers in SC), fried chicken wings, sandwiches and more.

Pairing suggestion: The Hangover Helper (sausage patty, bacon, eggs, home fries, biscuit, sausage gravy and beer cheese) with a Pepsi for a classic Saturday brunch in Charleston.

Ichiban Steakhouse & Asian Fusion

Ichiban, which means “number one” in Japanese, works to serve the best Japanese and Asian fusion cuisine in the city. When you visit this West Ashley spot, you’ll find Teppanyaki (Japanese hibachi cooked at the table), sushi rolls and Chinese dishes like pineapple fried rice.

Pairing suggestion: The Ichiban Volcano roll (deep fried salmon, tuna, white fish, cream cheese, spicy crab, conch and house special sauce) with Pepsi.
