Pepsi Supports the V Foundation

The work we do to support the Carolinas is often inspired by the amazing work of our partner organizations. In 2013, Pepsi Bottling Ventures’ customers started donating their commission from custom-branded Jimmy V vending machines to support cancer research. The ongoing campaign represents our partnership with the V Foundation for Cancer Research, which was established in 1993 by ESPN and the late Jim Valvano.
The famous NC State basketball coach and ESPN commentator announced the creation of the charity the night he received the Arthur Ashe Courage and Humanitarian Award at the ESPYS that year.
“We need your help,” he said during his acceptance speech. “I need your help. We need money for research. It may not save my life. It may save my children's lives. It may save someone you love.” (ESPN)
He lost his own cancer battle just months later.
Valvano’s cause lives on through the V Foundation, as well as through the 1,100 dedicated Jimmy V vending machines in North and South Carolina. By 2017, Pepsi Bottling Ventures had raised over $450,000.
"Pepsi Bottling Ventures' support of the V Foundation over the last six years is nothing short of incredible," said Randy Karsten, Vice President, Business Alliances at the V Foundation for Cancer Research. "The Jim-Valvano-inspired vending machines in North Carolina are providing important visibility for cancer research and an easy way for Pepsi Bottling Ventures customers to contribute. We thank you most sincerely for your partnership as we work together to achieve Victory Over Cancer ®.”
